Seamus Heaney: Nobel Prize Winning Poet (High School, College)
Seamus Heaney is a poet, essayist and translator and won the Noble Prize for Literature in 1995. A member of the Irish academy of artists and writers, Mr. Heaney is also a Foreign Member of The American Academy of Arts and Letters and was made a Commandeur de L'Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. Many of these sites offer plot summaries, literary analysis, and much more. Chances are even your best-intentioned students are using them (at least occasionally) in place of your assigned readings.

Featured Web Site: Purdue University Online Writing Labs (High School, College)
Purdue University has the most comprehensive OWLs (Online Writing Labs) on the Web. The labs offer subject tutorials, teacher resources, links, PowerPoint presentations, and other resources.

Featured Lesson Plan: "Oedipus the King: An Introduction to Greek Drama" (High School)
The goal of this detailed lesson plan from PBS is to help students gain an insight into Greek tragedy and concepts such as fate, hubris, and (dramatic) irony.

SCORE Language Arts: Cyberguides and Activity Bank(High School)
The Schools of California Online Resources for Educators (SCORE) project offers reviews of language arts web sites, lesson plans, teaching guides, and much more. Their "CyberGuides" for grades 9-12 supply teachers with activities and web resources and their Activity Bank provides forms and strategies for journaling, graphic organizers, and literary analysis.
